Twitter Powered Food Carts Take San Francisco by Storm

Creme Brulee Cart

I used to look down upon the Twitter craze because there are few people that I deem interesting enough to want to know about their whereabouts every five minutes. But this social network proved me wrong as soon as the “food cart” phenomenon popped up. An individual or a few people get together with a cart or a truck, make the delicacy of their choosing, and tweet the location of their cost-effective creations. Although this trend is taking the nation by storm, I think our very own home of San Francisco gets the bragging rights of having the largest community of carts around! Here is a list of crazy cooking tweeters we think are worth following:

Crème Brulee Cart – With the most followers (upwards of 6,800), the man behind the cart has taken this viral carting to another level with his unique crème brulee flavors (lavender and apple jacks have our attention!)

Sweet Ride – These sickly sweet ladies converted an old mail truck (painted it pink and cut out a window on the side) and sell their note-worthy treats out of it! They are the original mobile bakery with everything from mousse to cupcakes to sorbet.

Gumbo Cart – With accessibility to wonderfully fresh seafood, this guy is winning over our San Francisco hearts with his grandfather’s gumbo recipe.

Carte415 – The chef for this cart, like many of us, felt the heat from the recession and took his plans for a sit down restaurant to the streets. He brings gourmet farm-to-table street food to San Francisco.

Amuse Bouche – Another cornerstone of the cart-craze is Amuse Bouche. They refer to themselves as “the home of the original recession buster breakfast”. Their current claim to fame is the pita puff!

Soul Cocina – Not only is Soul Cocina a mobile eatery, but also a cooking school and restaurant. This Wednesday at the bike-in movie night, they will be serving hot churros and hot chocolate!

Wholesome Bakery – This cart caters to the ever-growing population of vegans. All of their scrumptious baked goods are vegan and high in fiber.

Urban Nectar – To wash down every morsel of your on-the-go meal, go straight to Urban Nectar. They have freshly squeezed juices, something that can never go out of style.

The Chai Cart – Indian food is a lot like comfort food, and is thankfully being made more accessible to everyone. The Chai cart brings organic ingredients together with Indian street food culture to make delicious samosas and Indian chai tea.

Adobo Hobo – This cart is moving right up our ‘must have’ list with his cheap and delicious two chicken pieces on a bed of rice for only $5.

Brazilian Bites – Our favorite Brazilian babe is now on the move! This is an exciting new cart with an authentic and exotic twist.

So I take it back, there are people I want to know the whereabouts of every second of the day, and that list seems to keep growing! Along with the originals, new twists on the viral cart are notable, delicious, and affordable. A great time to catch a large majority of these carts is at this Wednesday’s bike-in movie night, this weekend’s first San Francisco Street Food Festival, and on Twitter!

  1. This recipe looks interesting. Does not seem like lot of work, and the end product that is Samosa looks tempting. For me Samosa’s is one of the best Indian food.

  2. I love your website – super job!
